What "doesn't expire" means here
Codes made here have no expiry date. There is no trial that ends after 14 or 30 days, no limit on how many times a code can be scanned, and no plan you have to upgrade to keep a code alive. A code you print today keeps opening your content for as long as it exists in your account.
The service is free today. Our terms say that if paid plans are ever introduced, we will tell you in advance, and nothing will be charged without your explicit agreement.
Static and dynamic QR codes expire in different ways
A static QR code holds its content inside the pattern, such as a web address or Wi-Fi details. It never expires, because no service sits in between. But it can never be changed and nobody can count its scans. If the web page it opens moves or the address has a typo, the printed code is wrong for good.
A dynamic QR code holds a short link. The service behind that link sends visitors on to your content, which is why you can edit the code after printing and see how many people scanned it. It also means a dynamic code depends on that service, here included. Before you print a dynamic code anywhere, check what happens to it over time.
Every type here except Wi-Fi is dynamic. Wi-Fi codes are static: the network name and password are in the code itself, so the code keeps working, even without internet, until you change the password.
What can stop a code from working
Only these things stop a code made here: you pause it or delete it in your dashboard, you delete your account, or we block it because it breaks our terms of use, for example with phishing or malware. A paused code shows a short notice until you switch it back on. Deleted codes are never given to anyone else, so an old printed code can never open someone else's page.
The content behind a code can also run out on its own. A Discord invite with a time limit, a file share that ends after a week, or a web page that is taken down will stop working even though the QR code does not. With a dynamic code, you paste a new link and every printed copy works again. The Password-Protected Document type is the only one with an end date, and you choose it yourself.
How to make a QR code for free
Choose what the code should open: a website, a PDF, a menu, your contact details, a Wi-Fi network or one of more than 50 types in all. Fill in the details, then pick colors, a frame and your logo if you like. Sign in with Google or your email and download the code as PNG, SVG or JPG.
Your draft is saved as you work. If you leave before signing in, an unfinished draft is kept for 7 days after your last change. Once the code is published to your account, it has no time limit.
What else you get for free
Every dynamic code has scan statistics: scans and unique visitors by day, device, operating system and country. You get an email when a code is scanned for the first time, and you can switch on a weekly summary. You can download a copy of all your data from Settings at any time.

Questions
Is this QR code generator really free?+
Yes. Creating, designing, downloading and scan statistics are free with an account, with no credit card needed. If paid plans are ever introduced, our terms say we will tell you in advance and charge nothing without your explicit agreement.
Do QR codes made here expire?+
No. They have no expiry date and no scan limit. A code keeps working for as long as it exists in your account and is not paused.
What happens to my codes if I delete my account?+
They stop working, and their links are never given to anyone else. Download your data from Settings first if you want a copy.
Does a static QR code ever expire?+
No. A static code holds its content in the pattern, so it works as long as that content is valid. It cannot be edited or tracked. Here, Wi-Fi codes are static; every other type is dynamic.
Can I make a QR code without signing up?+
You can create and design a code without an account, and your draft is kept for 7 days. To download it, sign in with Google or your email. That is what ties the code to your account so it keeps working.
